Results From IKF/PKB San Diego
"IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing"
November 19th, 2011 - San Diego, California, USA

In the first presentation of IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing in the San Diego area, several fighters showed up to demonstrate their skills but many of them where at different weights and skill level. Therefore, IKF Point Kickboxing Representative Daniel Hodges decided to do a round robin event where basically everyone got to compete and everyone walked away with a prize.

In the future and as more gyms in that area become familiar with the popular IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing movement and the great benefits to fighters and the sport, we are sure many more competitors will show up for future events. A big congratulations to all fighters, coaches and gyms who showed up to support the event! Additionally, a big shout out to Team Quest Encinitas who came in numbers and demonstrated impressive Muay Thai skills!

There was a great performance by

  • Antonio Penuelas of Paragon Martial Arts, with 3 wins
  • Ricardo Correa, Matt Zeigler and Curtis Phillipson of Team Quest Encinitas each with 2 wins.
  • Matt Demaneis of Pilot Built, with 1 win.
  • Chris Speed, of Team Quest Encinitas, with 1 win.
  • Jason Freiman, of Pilot Built, with 1 win.
  • Alexis Reyes of Pilot Built, with 1 win.

There was also an awesome female bout between Alexis Reyes and Poala Ramirez. Other female fighters showed up but this time around did not have an opponent but gave notice that they will be back so female fighters get ready to rock San Diego.

Moreover, there were some junior fighters that showed up ready for battle and did not have opponents this time around. Again, this should give notice to other gyms that there is action waiting for your club for future IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing tournaments in your area and we are looking forward to seeing more gyms for future events. Big thanks to everyone who came out to support Kickboxing in San Diego county, lets get the word out that IKF PKB is HERE and looking for talented Muay Thai Kickboxers!

The above report was submitted by IKF PKB Representative Daniel "Hitman" Hodges who also won his division in the IKF West Coast Muay Thai Kickboxing Classic the following week with three big victories over the weekend! The welterweight division had some of the toughest competitors in the entire tournament.

Stell Family Shares New
IKF Point / Muay Thai Kickboxing Post

Dan and Valinda Stell of Vacaville, California Named IKF Point / Muay Thai Kickboxing Coordinators

\

IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing© has been for many years, the incubator that has launched so many of today's current kickboxing champion's careers. This semi contact version of Muay Thai and so many other kickboxing styles has allowed fighters to gain confidence in themselves and techniques and therefore has attracted fans from around the world. Although, the semi contact is fairly new to the United States over the past twelve years, it has been saturated around the world and the concept has been picked up by many other organizations that simply re-named it and promote their events.

After hundreds of events and thousands of matches, the IKF who lead the way introducing this exciting new name to the world is now faced with moving the IKF Point Kickboxing concept to the next level. The IKF wants to assure that those competing in these events are safe and that events are run fairly.

Therefore, IKF PKB President Johnny Davis and International Fight Sports, IFS (IFS is the parent company of IKF & IKF/PKB) CEO Steve Fossum have appointed renown and IKF Chief Official Dan Stell (Above Left and at Right as PKB Referee) and his very experienced wife Valinda Stell (Above Right) of Vacaville, California, as IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Coordinators.

Along with having great knowledge of the rules and regulations of IKF PKB, Stell, is also a top official and referee for the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). He understands the rules and the difference between contact levels and is an excellent choice for this position. He has a vast knowledge in an assortment of fighting styles and has refereed thousands of matches. Moreover, he has been involved with IKF Point Kickboxing since the inaugural event in San Jose, California, held at Evergreen Community College over twelve years ago.

Stell and his wife's role will be to increase IKF PKB events in the state as well as abroad...working with potential promoters to assure their events are run fairly and smoothly and adhering to the IKF PKB guidelines. He can be contacted at (707) 372-0882 or by email at Bambamstell@aol.com

CHALLENGES OF REGULATING AND
THE SUCCESS OF THE WORD "POINT"

As with any new concept, the IKF has experienced some imitators out there that have been illegal using the copyrighted name "POINT" in front of the word "Kickboxing". (meaning all styles of kickboxing) in their tournaments. Kickboxing of course is NOT copyrighted. However, when used together, "POINT KICKBOXING" IS!

This illegal use of placing the word "POINT" in front of either KICKBOXING or MUAY THAI does not mean the same for these other events. For many, the term "SEMI" contact goes out the door and the bouts become "Whatever the referee feels like" instead of the well controlled bouts of IKF Point Kickboxing.

The IKF brand has clearly been the leading force in pushing this great concept across the United States and abroad. European countries have had semi contact kickboxing with a similar concept as in the United States for quite some time now, and the concept is becoming more and more popular here in the USA. There is no doubt that if done correctly, semi contact Kickboxing and in particular, IKF Point Kickboxing, is a great means for fighters to start, develop, as well as enhance their stand up fighting techniques. Unfortunately, some who are doing these so-called semi contact events are not adhering to the semi contact...no knockout rules.

Because of their action, State Regulators for fight sports (California State Athletic Commission) are getting closer and closer to closing down these "Imitated" Semi Contact Kickboxing events. The other big difference here is that the IKF received direct acceptance and approval from the California State Athletic Commission, to sanction and regulate the IKF Point Kickboxing / Muay Thai bouts and events, something NO OTHER promoter of semi contact Kickboxing or Muay Thai has ever done.

The IKF is adamant about the contact levels and strictly enforces the matches not turning into full contact bouts. Full contact bouts are illegal in states like California without the oversight of the California State Athletic Commission.

The difficult part in this scenario is to educate trainers, fighters and fans to what they are getting into before they enter these events. Those that improperly using the "copyrighted" Point Kickboxing term for their events as a cliché when in fact it's not just a cliché. This name was included in an entire copyrighted Kickboxing manual (The Art of Kickboxing) many years ago by Johnny Davis (A former two time world champion and author of the manual) that copyrights the name "Point" Kickboxing which is clear and precise.

Through this manual and years before on popular websites like the IKF's, IKF Point Kickboxing was introduced to the United States and the "Point" Kickboxing" term blanketed the world as it made sense to the concept of the sport and the intent of its participants. Davis is now the IKF Point Kickboxing World President.

Additionally, Daniel "Hitman" Hodges, (See below), a two time IKF Kickboxing Champion who now lives in San Diego, California, has also been appointed as an IKF PKB Representative in the San Diego, California area. Hodges will be organizing with potential promoters and clubs in that area to expand IKF Point Kickboxing even more. He can be contacted at (916) 761-6998 or by email at dhodges0331@gmail.com

Dan and Valinda Stell as well as Daniel Hodges will now be venturing out to continue to grow the IKF PKB. From their work, fight fans can be assured they are in good hands and feel confident the purpose of the concept will be served.

FRIDAY, August 19th, 2011, AT 7:45 PM/ PST

Daniel Hodges
Appointed New IKF Point Kickboxing Representative
San Diego, California, USA

Daniel "Hitman" Hodges formerly of the Sacramento, CA area but now living in San Diego, CA is the New IKF PKB Representative for San Diego, CA region. Hodges, a two time IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing Champion will be overseeing IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing© semi contact events and assuring they are run well and are safe for all competitors.

Hodges noted "IKF Point Kickboxing was a great way for me to get started as a fighter. It helped me develop my skills and I recognize the importance to the beginner and intermediate competitors. I'm looking forward to working with local gyms and tournament promoters to introduce them to this exciting division of semi contact action!"

Hodges plans to continue fighting in full contact bouts, defending and winning more titles. He used the same strong work ethics to achieve his fighting success that he plans to carry over and dedicate to his duty as the new PKB Representative.

"He gets in your face and never stops. He will make a great addition to the IKF Point Kickboxing team and we are happy to have him aboard"
says IKF PKB President Johnny Davis.

IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing
World Classic Results

July 16th, 2011 - Orlando Florida, USA

IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing is one of the fastest growing semi contact divisions in the martial arts. Although sometimes called different names, the idea is the same...creating a semi contact incubator environment for fighters to increase their skills.

In the IKF, ( Point Muay Thai Kickboxing ) their are no knockouts allowed and fights are closely monitored for safety while allowing the fighters to get the maximum benefit from their matches. For the past three years, IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing has been a part of the IKF World Kickboxing Classic in Orlando, Florida and each year this division continues to grow. Loaded with exciting action and nice trophies, family and friends love the very real action and intensity in each bout! As you see in the report above, more fighters are coming from abroad to compete in this level of competition. Some of those who did the IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing the year before were winners in the Full Contact portion of the tournament as they stepped up their game! This year, 9 year old Keelie Cargill, of Oklahoma City ( Pictured at right with IKF PKB President Johnny Davis and her new belt) won a world title in the Full Contact kids division with a TKO of here opponent.

We hope to see you at next year's IKF World Kickboxing Classic in Orlando in the full contact and the IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing division. If you would like to have an IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing division in your martial arts tournament or promote one in your hometown you can contact IKF PKB President, Johnny Davis at johnnyd@akpromotions.org

IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing…
Ready For The 2011 IKF World Classic!

Orlando, Florida, USA

Summer has arrived and so has the time to get registered for the 2011 IKF World Kickboxing Classic (July 15th, 16th and 17th) in Orlando, Florida, USA! This event is one of the most prestigious events for amateur kickboxing in the world! Those who are in the know- know that this event is one that should not be missed especially by those serious about their future as well as adding the words of IKF World Classic Champion to their resume.

The ever-growing IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Division has been growing in leaps and bounds in the past two years at the World Classic. This year, several gyms are promising to bring out as many fighters as possible that will only make the tournament even better! As usual, we expect an even bigger group to enter for later registration this year, which is as late as Saturday, July 16th at 12:Noon. The competition will start at 6:PM to be the evening entertainment on July 16th for the World Classic.

Men, Women and Children as young as 5 years can compete, as long as there is someone in their division to fight. The action will be hot but of course as always, the semi contact rule is in full affect as there are NO KNOCKOUTS ALLOWED. There will be divisions in IKF/Point Muay Thai, International Hi Kick and International Low Kick styles. However, sometimes we have to mix and match to assure everyone coming gets a fair fight.

Everyone planning to bring their fighters really needs to know the difference in this competition and what will be going on in the main arena. The semi contact rules must be paramount. However, in saying this, we encourage you to use your speed instead of power and focus on the points and you will have a great time at this event! Moreover, BE IN SHAPE, the 2 – 2 minute with 1 round of OT is in affect for this event. We will modify it for the little guys, but be in shape and ready to rock as these rounds seem a lot longer than it sounds on paper!

Just as last year's event, the World Classic will be held at the largest Marriott in the world in Orlando, Florida. This beautiful location is one that stands out and the luxury rooms and exciting scenery with Disney World just a stones throw away, makes it's a great location for such an event. Heck, planning your family's vacation around the tourney at this wonderful location is not a bad idea!

In addition to semi contact, The IKF World Classic will again have the best divisions of Full contact bouts with divisions in Muay Thai, International Hi Kick and International Low Kick styles. Over 300 fighters will travel afar to prove one thing…they are the Best! Some will come with an illusion of greatness and others will come with a vision for victory but either way, their destiny will need to be decided in the ring! When you get a ton of fighters, trainers and pumped up fans in one room hungry for a fight and hungry for a win…its going to be a lot of fireworks going off even if the 4th of July has past!

We look forward to seeing your there! Remember, Register Early and Save! Forward March! More information on IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing, Contact Johnny Davis at johnnyd@akpromotions.org

JUDGES: Thanks in advance for those that would like to volunteer some time to assist with judging some matches for the PKB. You must be a practicing Kickboxer with at least 4 years experience or a Black Belt Martial artist. You would also have to attend the rules meeting on Friday, July 15th.

WHAT ARE THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS NOW?
Registration for the Main Portion of the IKF World Classic is growing daily! As of the end of the day today, with only 1 deadline past we are at 196 Fighters!

IKF Point Kickboxing Tournaments continue to serve as an excellent incubator for the sport of Kickboxing. Several competitors showed up this past weekend in Rocklin California to participant in this exciting competition and fighters and fans were delighted. There were some awesome bouts! Although the matches are semi contact, competitors struggle to finish the rounds and maintain focus on techniques and speed as oppose to brut and power.

Many at this weekend's event showed great potential for some of the big events coming to California this year. Big announcements are coming soon! Junior female fighter Kiahna Barragan of Santa Rosa, California showed great promise as one of the future kickboxing stars as she swept through the competition. However, Natasha Rosca of Rocklin gave her a great battle and the two are looking ahead to more exciting bouts in the future. The awards are nice and the atmosphere is positive. If this sounds like something you think you want your club to be apart of, you need to make it to the next IKF Point Kickboxing event!

Additionally, we were also honored to have a Retired Four Star General of the Marines in the audience General Richard Hearny. What an honor and a pleasure....the audience gave him a nice round of applause and thanked him for his years of service! We think he also enjoyed the action! :)
